Making Pittsburg a
Housing Ready City
Making Pittsburg a
Housing Ready City
Isaiah knows the importance of stable housing firsthand, and how it feels when it’s not sufficient.
As a child, he witnessed personally the struggles working families often face in the housing sector. When his single mother lost her job in the 2008 recession, his family faced homelessness. They were able to get back on their feet with assistance from the CHOICES Family Emergency Center, which was run by SEK-CAP. The facility closed in 2014 due to poor funding decisions made in Topeka, and families in Pittsburg are now making impossible decisions every year.
Isaiah has worked full-time at the Mall Deli since high school and through college, saving every penny he could just to make a down payment on a house in 2024. These experiences fuel his commitment to fight for every Pittsburg family to have opportunities for safe, affordable housing.
Too many families today are locked out of housing by outdated zoning, corporate landlords, and unnecessary red tape. Isaiah supports making Pittsburg a Housing Ready City by:
More Options for Families and Property Rights: Protect homeowners’ rights to use their property by allowing duplexes, triplexes, and backyard cottages where they live.
Starter Homes for Working People: Legalize small, affordable houses without restrictive lot-size rules.
Cutting the Cost of Building: End parking mandates and unnecessary regulations that make homes more expensive.
Faster Approvals: Streamline permits so local builders and families have the right to add homes quickly and affordably.
Protecting Our Neighborhoods: Prioritize local builders and developers while cracking down on out-of-town corporate speculators who drive up prices and exploit our town.
Isaiah will fight to make Pittsburg housing ready, giving our community the freedom to grow one step at a time, with neighbors building for neighbors.
